Golfer's Elbow Treatment in Mineola, NY

MULLIGAN CONCEPT

Golfer's Elbow

Golfer's elbow is pain on the inside of the elbow from overloaded forearm tendons that bend the wrist and fingers. At Enhanced Physical Therapy in Mineola, we use Mulligan elbow mobilization and taping to reduce pain when gripping, then progressively strengthen the tendons so you can get back to golf, the gym or work.

Our clinics director is a Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP) with over a decade
of experience using this evidence-based approach. Each treatment is customized to
your specific diagnosis and movement limitations to achieve optimal outcomes.

Common signs of golfer's elbow

  • Pain on the inside of the elbow
  • Pain gripping, lifting or swinging a club or racquet
  • Weak grip
  • Pain bending the wrist against resistance
  • Stiffness in the morning

What causes it

Repetitive gripping, throwing, lifting and golf or racquet sports overload the tendons on the inside of the elbow.

How we examine it

Before any hands-on treatment, we ask about your health and screen for anything that needs a doctor first. We confirm the diagnosis, check the ulnar nerve and the neck, and test whether a Mulligan glide makes gripping less painful.

Mulligan techniques we use

  • Elbow MWM. A gentle glide of the forearm while you grip.
  • Mulligan elbow taping. Tape to hold the glide during activity.
  • Pain Release Phenomenon (PRP). For pain lasting more than six weeks. Pain Release Phenomenon, not platelet rich plasma.

What the research says

There is little research on Mulligan techniques for the inside of the elbow. We apply the same approach that has stronger support in tennis elbow and combine it with tendon loading, the foundation of care for elbow tendon pain.

What else is in your treatment plan

Your plan includes MWM, taping, progressive wrist and grip strengthening and changes to technique and equipment.

How long recovery takes

Most people improve over 6 to 12 weeks.

When to see a doctor first

Call your doctor, or get urgent care, if you have any of the following:

  • Numbness or tingling in the ring and little fingers
  • Elbow pain after a fall or a pop while throwing
  • A hot, swollen elbow
  • Hand weakness
  • Constant pain at rest

Frequently asked questions

Is golfer's elbow the same as tennis elbow?

No. Golfer's elbow is on the inside of the elbow and tennis elbow on the outside, but both are tendon overload problems.

Can I keep playing golf?

Often yes, with changes to load and technique.

How long does golfer's elbow take to heal?

Usually 6 to 12 weeks with a loading program.

Does a strap help?

A counterforce strap may ease pain during activity.
